Default Oil Pump/Ring Gears

1997 LR disco I petrol 120K no issues, doing HG repair due to leaks, but other than that, we cool.

Hey gents, I have a question about the oil pump ring gears, and I draw the limit at two hours of internet searching, this site included.

Do the ring gears face a certain way, or can they be flipped? My front cover and oil pump plate ( the one with all the screws) has slight wear, should I sand it lightly or leave it alone?

Do the ring gears need to be aligned? (ie put them back in the way you took them out, -also the new parts are shown as tied together like they are 'timed up' I can't understand why this would matter. Why do they need to be timed up? I did find one very old post on another site where a grizzled vet said NBD. (no big deal)

I hope this isn't too many questions, I try and read and learn, but I just cannot find this info...

thanks for looking.

see https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...ump+gears+side for some other important info, I think NBD on the flip side. I believe the wear you see is an issue...

The wear is light, visible, but not deep by any measure. It is difficult to feel with a finger tip. The red neck in me says just sand the whole thing down lightly with a block and move on, but I am being a little cautious.

Thanks for the thread, I saw it before, but it was so long, i didn't go through the whole thing, very helpful.

I am thinking about installing a gauge to measure oil psi. I have never had the light come on in the short time that I have owned it...

I seem to recall a post about a too low for spec pressure oil pump with no cracks, but heavy scoring causing problems. Might want to review attached page from the overhaul manual; part of the RAVE (Rovers A'int Very Economical), spec for clearance is like .004 inch. Your printer paper is about .0038 inch.
