Default oil temperature

help please. ihave an 1983 range rover 3.5ltr with an oil prob.
i have 40-60lb pressure but i only have to drive about 3-4 klms to have the temp go to 240-250 deg F.
the water temp only 1/3 up scale. i replaced the gauge and sensor with an aftermarket vdo type but reads exactly the same. has anyone struck this problem before?

Default RE: oil temperature

So are you saying your oil temp is running in the 240 range?
If so, I would look more at the coolant system, it is not the oil's job to disipate the engine temp, that is the coolants job. I would suggest you look and replace the t/stat, if that doesn't settle the heat down then go to a radiator shop and have them check your radiator for blockage, may need to be cleaned out.
