Default OPINION POLE: D1 or D2.....THOUGHTS?-->

Hey everyone, some know I'm already a Disco1 owner.......New to the bread, but I just stumbled on a D2 with 161k on the clock for short money.....(it's a 2000)

Curious since I'm a bit new, which has more issues???
If you did it again, which would be preferred???

My 97 D1 shows it's age, wondering if I should cut my losses or is the D1 less trouble than a D2 in the big picture?

Looking for as many opinions as possible, THANKS!!

I'd say buy it, you really, really, really need to be taught a serious lesson........

I do people favors by repairing their neglected Rovers. Of course they do me favors too like give me papers which coincidently fit in my wallet with pictures of dead presidents. I DO NOT LIKE DISCOVERY SERIES II LAND ROVERS! So more dead presidents must be given before I commence forth. It takes me roughly three times longer to do a common repair on a DII as it would on say ..... a Range Rover Classic, hell for that matter a Range Rover L322. I like zip, zip done. I know zip, zip done. Sometimes I have to do zip, zip, zip done but those are few and far between. Not when it comes to a DII. It's zip, zip, zip, ZAP, zip, zip KAPOW! Um, hey, I need more pictures of dead presidents please!

I am not a fan.

A pole is something wires hang off of. That was the nicest visual I could give you.

I know how to put this in your terms.

The D1 is the regular stripper, you've seen her dance and you know what she can do. She is reliable you know her limits and she is a bit simpler.

The D2 is a 18 year old stripper, somewhat unpredictable and doesn't know her own limitations for experimentation. You are going to get hurt along the way and your wallet will suffer, but it will be a hell of a ride.

So in the end by a Range Rover Classic you'll be happier

I love your analogy. So vey true.
I am on my second d2 and really enjoy it although they are far from trouble free. A lot more electronics, bells and whistles on a d2 than on a d1 which has more than a classic.
I have had my eye on a 1983 classic 2 door for a while and hope to some day get it.
I guess the Range Rover classic would be a stripper too.
She is a bit heavier than the other girls. Nothing too flashy to look at. All the right parts but nothing extravagant.
Between a d1 and a d2 I would choose the d2 . 2004 , 4.6l

I like D2s more. Less interior noise and overall a more refined ride. But yes, more complicated.

If you are looking to off road mostly, D1. If you want a good commuter with more comfort, D2.

I like D2 better for a daily driver. I think the diagnostics work better and are easier. I've said it in the past, a D1 can run like crap and not have a single code stored. D2 goes a little bit the other way and can run just fine with a plague of check engine lights for minor things. I also think a D2 drives better on the road.

For off-road I'd probably rather have a D1.

For either one, find one without sunroofs. They are worse than worthless on a d1 or d2.

Even better, make the quantum leap to an LR3.

Dead presidents & strippers........Having funded many a clothe on a strippers back, I can relate.....(oh those were the days)..

As an appreciative recipient of a fresh 8 hours of sleep, and with your help.....I'll continue to get to know and stick with my current engagement with my D1.....Seems the only quality mentioned positively about the D2 was ride quality, the girl I was eye balling already had implants, she's lifted....So that quality is already questionable, although in my case, I'm sure it would be fine....

I'll continue with the D1, thank you, lets move on....
