Sorry it has taken so long to get back.

drowssap, Studs were used. Head gasket seems to be fine.

Now, every once in a great while the overflow on the radiator reservoir will overflow and spew coolant all over. The temp gauge does not register that it is too hot and we replaced the temp gauge and thermostat sensor, and water pump have been replaced. The radiator has been flushed.

I am really upset at my mechanic. I think I need one who really specializes in Land Rovers.
Do you guys have any suggestions for a good mechanic in Huntington Beach area of California?

BTW I use to use Silver Motors in Long Beach but they are gone :-(

 

What thermostat are you using? I saw you said you replaced thermostat sensor, does that mean your replaced your thermostat? I would recommend you replacing the thermostat with genuine 180* LR thermostat(do not use aftermarket)

 

Joemamma1954 I do not know what thermostat was put in by the mechanic so I will replace it today. I also noticed on You Tube right now that there is a bleeder valve and if it was not bled correctly that it could do the same thing.

So it took quite some time to get a 180 deg Land Rover thermostat. I put it in Saturday and drove it all over the place in stop and go beach traffic in 90 degree weather. No probs so I think that everything is fine now.

The only thing I noticed was that the bleeder valve was bubbling alot for the first couple of hours and I had to add fluid Sat night. This seems to be normal from what I saw on youtube.

The bleed valve was bubbling a lot for the first couple of hours? The only time anything should be coming out of that valve is when it is unscrewed to bleed a cold engine. If it is bubbling while the engine is running, then either it wasn’t fully tightened, or the threads on the screw or housing are partially stripped.

I would look into that. If the treads are buggered, there is a chance of either it blowing out, or allowing air into the system.

 

lordmorpheus I just checked the bleeder. Threads are great. The O ring was nice but I replaced it. Tightened up good. Sprayed soapy water on it while running and No bubbles. Not sure what I was seeing before. I will keep an eye on it.
