Default P1313, P1314, and P1316 - need your opinions

P1313 - camshaft yada yada
P1314 - fuel system error / fuel tank low level
P1316 - misfire...

I've searched the forum and found numerous posts with the 1313 and 1316 codes, but I haven't been able to find the end resolution to the posts.

I traded an old car for my 96 DI yesterday. It's got 148K on it. CE light was on and it idled a little rough, but I saw that the previous owner had 7mm wires on it and figured I could do a tune up with the better plugs/wires. I have them ordered and haven't put them on yet.

But while I was out, I got a "no start". The truck wouldn't crank at all. No noise, no clicking, nada. Battery tested good. Waited 10 min and it started right up. Had AZ pull the codes and got the three listed above (of course, two were for BMW and one for Acura).

Here's the opinion part - will changing the plugs/wires be the right route to go? I'm sure it can't hurt, but one guy on here with a P1313 said he was going to pull the heads bc of no compression (but never stated whether that was a solution). I'm not sure if I should be looking at bigger issues or just doing the tune up.

As for P1314, I noticed last night that fuel was pouring out of it when I was filling up. Could the cause of that problem set off the code?

Thank you!

1313 and 1314 are dead cats, 1316 is a bad emission misfire.
Start with all the tune related issues and replace both cats.

Thanks for the info, Mike. This may sound stupid, but does that REALLY mean the cats are bad? I had a cat blow out once on a Ford truck and it was an "event" - huge loss of power, exhaust system wheezing. The DI doesn't have either of those.

Based on the feed back from both front and rear 02's, the cats are dead and not burning off the polutants.

Will bad cats also cause the truck to have a rough idle?
