Please Help! Newbie, LR problems?
So I am strongly considering getting a Land Rover, probably a late nineties or early 2000's. Thats whats in my budget. I have no experience with Land Rovers, I love the look and admire the off road capabilities. I do have quite a bit of experience with Land Cruisers (is that a bad word around here?
). I have a buddy that was looking into Land Rovers a few years back and he said he was turned off on them because of high repair costs and some of them had consistant and chronic issues. So my question is, is my friend full of crap? I am hoping you guys being the experts will give it to me straight. So specifically speaking I am probably looking at a 97-2003 Land Rover Discovery. What issues should I be aware of and what things should be a deal breaker when looking at these vehicles, at least at 3500$-5500$. Thats the range they are selling for around here, with about 100k mi on them? Thanks for any and all the replys. I really want one, but I want to know what I am getting into.

Read this forum for two weeks before purchase. You'll see most of the common problems discussed. Overheat, oil pressure, price of stealership repair, etc. But basically, if you take care of your Rover it will take care of you. Try to have an indy mechanic look it over before purchase.
Read through all of the tech sections.
The parts are cheap as long as you know where to buy, they are high maintenance.
If you cant do most of the repairs yourself you will sell the truck in less than a year.
