Default Power Mirrors and Snow/Ice

Hi all--
I'm new to the forum and want to get your opinions on a question I've got. We've got a '12 LR4 and get a lot of snow and ice where we live. I went out the other day, cleared the LR off the best I could from snow & ice but of course can't get it all. Anyway, when the mirror unfolded when I opened the door, it made a really bad crunching sound and then stayed folded in, which was fine with me! They seem to work fine now but it got me thinking if this could potentially be a problem if it happens numerous times every time there's a storm. I'm wondering if any of you have experience with the mirrors functioning/malfunctioning in snow and ice and/or if it is possible to prevent them from automatically folding in? Thanks!
Jean

Sounds like ice stopped it from unfolding.
If this happens to much it will break the gears in the mirror.
Cover the mirrors with plastic store bags when you park it for the night, you can tie them on with kite string and then take them off while you are brushing off the snow from the rest of the truck.
