Default Power steering out but at least my arms are getting ripped

Hey all

Soooo.....I was driving down the road and I heard a sound that at first seemed like fluids were dumping, then it sounded like I ran something over and BOOM. No power steering. Land Rover disc 2 2000....I did not notice any fluids on the engine. My power steering fluid is in tact. The only thing I noticed was a piece of my belt that had come off and it looks like an alien.

I have continued driving but steering is difficult and parking is impossible.
Thanks guys!

Umm, using one of the predominant hands attached to your newly ripped arms you may want to see if the power steering pump still turns. Also, check idler and belt tensioner pulleys. You'll have to remove the belt anyways to change it right? Uh, huh. Do not put a good belt on until you've found the reason why the belt became alien to it's environment........ I'll bet you a buck you have a seized bearing or missing pulley somewhere over the Rover rainbow........

With the engine running, is your fluid churning inside of the p/s bottle?
Chances are pretty good your pump has failed, kind of common.
One way or the other you must change your belt before it breaks and you loose your alternator.
If the pump is bad, don't buy a rebuilt, the failure rate is very high, try British Parts of Utah.
