Questions about 1998 Disco
Hi everyone
I'm looking to buy a 1998 Disco. The car has 135 000km (I live in Quebec). I would like to know about the issues, things I should pay attention to on this vehicle.
I know that both of the u-joints in the front are broken. I will probably need to change all the brake pads and there is a leak in the power steering system. Those are the issues I know about.
Now, what are the issues I can have with the truck that the previous owner did not mentioned. I heard about the 3 amigos, the leaky sunroof etc. And what is the maintenance work I should expect on that truck? And what are the places I can find new/used parts since I will do most of the maintenance work myself. Thanks!

All of those issues are unrelated. That leads me to believe that this guy isn't really keeping up with his regular maintenances, and probably doesn't even know much about his truck. I would look into the truck more before seriously considering buying it, because buying a Disco is not the same as buying a Civic. You can't just buy a Disco and immediately know how to give it the care it really needs. That being said, they are great trucks and I hope I'm wrong about this guy, and I hope you find a good one, because if you treat it well it will treat you well. If you have any questions or anything here's the place to do it, there's a ton of info to be had here. Welcome to the club

I wouldn't look twice at this vehicle until you've had it inspected by a qualified mechanic and know the full extent of what you're getting into. You're at the stage where you can expect some significant maintenance expenses - and it looks as if this vehicle probably hasn't received the regular maintenance and TLC it required.

This is exactly what I think about this vehicle. The previous owner didn't keep up with the maintenance work. But I should see it first. I was supposed to go today or tomorrow but didn't have any news from the seller. When I'm gonna have a look at it, what sould I look at? What are the trouble areas? Thanks.
