Great, thanks for the help gentlemen. I read somewhere that the cooling system hoses were subject to a recall several years ago and that a complete set of hoses was available at the LR dealer for around $80. Is that still the case?
Those hose kits may have been $85.00 during the recall. You could check at the dealer but I would guess that the price has gone up since Land Rover is not footing the bill anymore.

A complete set of hoses at the dealer for $80? LaughOutMotherTruckingLoud!!
If you can get a complete set of cooling system hoses for your truck from the dealer then you are a very lucky person.
A little info on historic warranty pricing when Land Rover was footing the bill for R380 transmissions (Circa 1995)
They dropped the warranty price to somewhere around $585.00 complete!!!

Here's the part number of the hose kit... call the Stealership for a price.

PDK000020KIT................................Hose set complete 1

You may just get lucky!

On the DI, you should be using the green antifreeze. I prefer the Prestone premixed 50/50. Prestone is a top brand if not the top brand in antifreeze and if you purchase at either Walmart, Kmart, Target, PepBoys or one of the larger chain aotomotive stores you will get a competive price.

Do not use DEXCOOL (orange stuff) due to potential problems reacting with aluminum or something to that effect. Green is good for DI.

Happy to help out.

I called AB and they said Dexcool. I had looked at the Peak global lifetime because I was afraid I wouldn't get all the old stuff out. It is pinkish now. I always used Prestone in my other cars but wasn't sure about this one. Thanks for the info.

I had the rover towed to a local shop to replace all the hoses and the thermostat and they said they had to remove the alternator..that didn't sound right to me. I thought it was near one of the hoses. Couldn't find exact method or any good pics. Any thoughts?

I would have thought you could get to it from below. The lower hose has branches, one runs over to a metal riser that leads to the heater core. The others run to water pump input, and coolant reserve container. Probably should not add more than 1 hour to the labor charge.

Thanks, I guess I have small hands and more patients than they do..lol. I always worked on my other cars without taking them all apart. I haven't done much except tune-up stuff on my rover. I just put a new alternator and belt on right before winter and it didn't take 10 minutes except for the 30 minutes I spent looking for the bolt.

Well, happy to say I got my hoses/thermostat replaced and radiator flushed. Looks like I finally found someone who knows what their doing. It was major gunked up, real thick mess. He even cleaned the engine for me. Cost me more than I thought, but everything seems to be tok--knock on wood. At least I didn't blow a head gasket.
