Default rear brake lights

I was hoping somebody can help, Purchased a used 2002 freelander(havent purchased owners manual yet) and both back brake lights have gone out. Changed bulbs didnt work. Checked all fuses that look light related. Can anybody tell me which fuse is the brake fuse. I assume its in the drivers side fuse box. upper or lower row? which number from left or right? or even better yet what does the symbol look like? Thanks for any help. Is this a common problem?

Not sure on Freelanders, check for a bad relay or a bad brake switch, either can cause this to happen.

The fuse is in the drivers side fuse box , if the third brake light is lit, your problem is probbly the bulb sockets. You are checking the bumper mounted lights right ? because in some brittish fashon they didnt wire stop lights to the body lamp assy's ,Also if incorect bulbs are installed , you'll some really strange stuff. There is also a brake light switch recall on some freelanders , have a dealer run your VIN to see if you need it.
