Default Rear Differential Breather

My 2000 Discovery 2 doesn't have a breather tube on the rear axle. I bought some 6mm diameter hose, but it only goes in so far and doesn't really seat itself. It looks like there is a metal insert in there, but it seems like there should be a rubber grommet there also. Anyone run into this?

I plan on tapping my axle and running these for breathers.

Make sure you run it somewhere high and dry while you're at it.
