Remote key problem '93 Rangie.
'93 Rangie - When I lock the vehicle with the remote instead of the normal triple flash of the indicator lights I only get one long flash, for about 3 seconds, vehicle still locks, red light on dash still blinks rapid for about 8 seconds then slows to the normal rate. I’m a bit worried about getting locked out.
Checked my SPARE REMOTE and found that the spare operates the lock/unlock as it should i.e. on locking 3 flashes of indicators and alarm arms as it should.
It is not a battery problem – I swapped batteries between remotes,no difference.
I havecleaned the terminals in the remote fob, no difference.
On the SPARE REMOTE the red light on remote blinks once each press of the button, if you hold the button down continuously you still get only the one blink.
The other remote, which is used every day and worked the same as the spare (Until now)produces the symptoms explained in first paragraph but I now notice that the red light on this remote blinks continuously if you keep the button depressed.
Question.... Has anyone had this happen and what's the cause?
Thanks in advance for any help.

My 93 RRC (US LHD) had a remote FOB problem for a few years after I bought it from a lot (where it sat for 7 months and killed the battery). The low voltage state messed up the chip memory.
Anyhow, taking the fobs and truck to the dealer, they fitted it with NEW chips in the FOBs and the remote unit in the truck. No problems since then. It was surprisingly cheap ($75 I think). They said the ROM memory in the truck can flash in a low voltage state and get corrupted.

You can probably just order the chips and install them yourself (if you can get the programming guide). The guide might not be necessary -- I think my 1993 electronic manual was not updated to reflect the system in the truck. It's the case with trailer wiring too.
Sounds logical but ..... I have 2 fobs one works as it should but the other is demonstrating the problem, so I think it is probably the remote.
When you depress the button (Mine is a ONE BUTTON remote) and hold it down does the LED on the fob blink only once or does it blink continuously?
The one I have that works correctly blinks once only, the other one that seems faulty blinks continuously.

It was indeed the batteries, replaced them and problem went away, I assumed (Wrong) because when I swapped the batteries out of the spare remote that works OK into the one that is playing upit didn't make any difference. Appears one requires a bit more battery power than the other.

Thanks for the input.
