Removing key doesn't turn off engine
Greetings, all.
I have a Disco V8 1997 - Japanese made. For some reason the engine no longer turns off after I turn off (and remove) the key. The electric system (dash lights, etc.) turn off, but the engine continues to run. The only way I've been able to switch off the engine is by removing a fuse. It's not an alternator problem as we tried it and it continues to run.

RE: Removing key doesn't turn off engine
Sounds like it is a problem with the electrical portion of the ignition switch in the steering column. What fuse are you pulling to stop the engine from running?

RE: Removing key doesn't turn off engine
Hi Mike. I saw my mechanic digging around in the steering column. he said it wasn~t a problem with the ignition switch (the switch that receives the key), but I~m not positive. I've been removing the fuel injection fuse to stop the engine. It sucks because it's under the hood. Do you know of another one under the dash that I could use instead?

mrmozambique,
I confirmed this with a master Land Rover mechanic next door at the service part of our organization. The design of the electrical portion of the ignition switch is such, that these fail and deliver the same symptom you describe. The part is $112.75 (plus shipping) and we have it in stock
If you want to order it, let me know.
