Default Replaced Engine

My mechanic replaced the 4.0 in my 96 Discovery with a 4.0 from a 97. He checked all connections and couldn't get it going. He replaced the ECU (at his expense) and could get it to turn over but not start, He said it may need to be programmed so the ECU recognizes the engine but I'm clueless. Any suggestions?

Have him double check the crank position sensor. If it is not spaced correctly, or the teeth of the reluctor wheel are bent, there won't be spark. Back of engine, driver side. Spacers and such are frequently not put back correctly, spacing is critical. Also won't work if unplugged.

I replaced my engine and had the same problem... it was the black inertial switch on the passenger side firewall. I literally said "what's this," punched the button on the top (reset), and it fired right up. https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...s-55396/page2/

Mine is a Disco II but I think they both have the switch.
