Default Spongy Brake Pedal

Looking for ideas. I have replaced the master cylinder, brake booster, the two rear calipers and bleed the entire system yet I still have a very spongy pedal. The car stops fine when you push hard, but there is not sense of an ability to slow down gradually. I have had the rover for 8 years so there is no way this is expected function with the above mentioned new parts. I am looking for any additional troubleshooting ideas. Thanks

Flexible line that connects brake system to wheel mounted components - is it swelling when pressure arrives? Flushed all the fluid with new DOT4 and re-bleed? (contamination or water)

I realize this is an older thread (I'm reading as much as I can, I just got a 1996 Disco), but I wanted to throw another possibility? I had a 1992 F150 that acted the same as described with the brakes. It turned out to be a faulty ABS valve. I just remove it from the system. I drove many vehicles without ABS.

Did you follow the textbook bleeding process from the RAVE manual?. Brake bleeding is very specific and many have had difficulties after replacing major brake parts. Also as Savannah states, the flexi hoses next to the wheels perish and balloon under pressure giving a soft spongy pedal.
