Steering "issue"
Hey guys, love the site, love my Rovers (driving my 3rd one)! Here's the issue: I have an '03 Disco II, she's just turned 70K.I have been noticing that when I make aRIGHT hand turn there is a slight bump in the steering when the wheel isaprox.1/4 of the way around. It doesn't happen all of the time, butthe higher the speed the more obvious it seems, obviously.I haveno noises, the fluids are all fresh and I havejustreplaced the steeringstabilizer with an OME. This only happens when I make Right Hand Turns. I have actually been able to reproduce this issue even at a standstill. When Iget to that1/4 turn position I have to turn itfar enoughpastthebump spot or the wheel will kind of snap back to justbefore that spot. It feels like "play" I guess. To be honest, if it did it when I turned left I probably wouldn't have thought twice about it, but the left side is so tight and smooth........ Anyway, I've heard horror story after horror story and ampacking up the family for a road trip for Thanksgiving and my imagination is running away withme. We're goin' no matter what at this point and we've gotta take the Disco. How concerned should I be? Any ideas on the cause? Thanks guys!
Well, nevermind I guess. Thanks to DiscoMike for all of your help. The problemhas beenidentified as being a looseU-Joint in the steering shaft and will be repaired by replacing the entire intermediate shaft.Parts and labor aprox $250.00, using aused but refirbished and warrantied shaft fromRoverland Parts and labor at a local Rover shop.
