Default Still overheating disco2

I just replaced the headgaskets in this disco2 I just got. Also had the heads planed. Well on the drive today its still overheating. It will sometimes blow heat, pretty much only when the motor is revving. It wont overheat right away, it takes a bit. So I think the thermostat is still good. I don't want to think something like the block is bad quite yet. I drove it a bit yesterday and it didn't overheat, that was less than a mile but it had idled for 10 minutes or so. About 2 miles into todays drive through town it started overheating. Its not blowing white smoke out the tail pipe. I just don't know what to think at this point though.

fans? theres just the one clutched fan and yes thats working.

I guess I don't know if the bleeding was "proper". But I used the little bleeder on the top hose. And when air stopped exiting I closed it up. And after it overheated I pulled those hoses and filled the radiator. Now the little bleeder is broken. The plastic screw broke. So not sure what I'm going to do with that. Probably just jb-weld it shut for now and work on filling each hose or something....

I just read the proper technique for bleeding the system. I'll give it a shot tomorrow morning or tonight.

It should also an electric fan in the front.

oh, well maybe. I never noticed.

I spent about 20-30 minutes in my driveway with a running disco. I filled the radiator up using the top hose. I pulled it off and poured in the coolant. All the while having the cap off the overflow tank. I then started it up with the cap off. Coolant eventually started bubbling up. Not sure if air was leaving the system or if the coolant was boiling. It started coming out the overflow hose. I caught most of it with a bucket. No heat was coming out the vents and the truck was not overheating. Finally it stopped boiling over, I checked and the temp was fine. So I filled the spilt coolant back into the reservoir. It started bubbling again. I put the cap back on. At some point a little heat started coming out of the vents. I put my foot on the gas and let it rev to about 2,000 rpm's. It didn't overheat and the heat coming out the vents was very hot. After letting off the gas pedal the heat became mediocre. I did this a couple times. And finally the heat was pretty hot at idle. The truck did not overheat once in the 30ish minutes of idle and revving.

I'm going to drive it around in the morning and see what happens. I'd be ecstatic if all was well in my land rover world tomorrow...

This morning I added a little coolant to it. And on the way to school the heat went away, and when I got to school it had started to get hot. SO. I have no idea what the issue is. I'm pretty certain it was fully bled last night.

This is the same thing it did last time. Worked fine in the driveway, and on the drive it starts to overheat

i'm looking through this thread, and the second guy has gone through everything that I have, and has/had the same problem. I wonder if my t-stat is also bad. Where can I get a Land Rover t-stat for not out of this world pricing?

Are those genuine land rover parts? I was looking at them earlier. I'm looking for the bleeder t fitting for the hoses as well. All I can find is the one in the kit from Atlantic British. And my hoses are fine... So no sense spending $60 on hoses I don't need.

Also with the cap off the reservoir the coolant will constantly bubble up and out. When I had the heads off I checked for dropped sleeves and didn't see any.

I'm totally ready to give up on this thing. I got a new rover tstat, giving the truck one last chance, and it didn't work. After a couple minutes of trying to get the coolant blend it starts bubbling out the reservoir. The exhaust is blowing out a little smoke that smells like eggs, or at least its stinky. After shutting it down and then starting it again the bubbles will start immediately. I bled the system through the top and the heater core hoses.
