Stuck in third gear
So I took the disco wheeling today, got it really really stuck in the mud. After pulling it out all I have is either second or third gear. It wont shift even if I try doing it manually. No first gear and im pretty sure no second gear. Water and mud went into the car up to the speakers on the door. I have no service engine codes so I'm not even sure where to start.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

will it go into park, reverse or neutral? does it take more force than normal to get it out of park into any other gear. you might want to start with just the cables you may have pulled it off. also you would want to pull the pan and see if there is any dirt or water in there. can cause issues.
It will shift into park, reverse, and neutral without a problem, but when I try to shift it all the way into first or second it stays in third. I have run it up to about sixty which is around 3500 rpm and it still will not shift up into fourth. I am going to drop the transmission pan to look for dirt/water later today so I will report back. I will probably replace the filter reguardless. Where might I find the cables you are talking about? On the top of the transmission near the shifter? Thanks for the help!
My m and s lights were blinking when I was stuck in the mud hole, but as soon as it came out everything on the dash went back to normal with the exception of the two lights that come on after a rear coil over conversion.
Okay so I dropped the drain pan tonight, and the fluid looked really clean. The trouble is i am not sure how I'm going to replace the fluid. There is a drain plug on the side of the pan as well as on the bottom. I'd like to replace the filter but I don't know where to find it. Some advice on both problems would help!! Thanks.
did you get water in the truck? did you check the battery connections? again, you are in limp. my 3 bets are the connections at the battery, the xyz switch or the transmission ecu under the driver seat. what pan did you drop? the transmission? the gasket you can get at an autozone or similar. the top plug is the fill plug you need a pump to fill it. truck running transmission in neutral.
Yes I got quite a bit of water in the truck. I will pull the transmission ecu out today as I am almost sure it was exposed to water. Can it be cleaned/dried out? Or is it fried and in definite need of replacement? Thanks for the instruction on refilling the transmission fluid. Where is the tranny filter located and should it be replaced as well?
As you will find in your very own copy of the RAVE, it is under the driver seat (NAS).
Should survive if unwatered and dried out, including connectors.
There is also the XYZ switch on the side of the tranny, it tells ECU what position the shifter is in, and if it is full of water can do similar things. It can be removed, opened up, cleaned up, resealed.
The normal ratio between "thrill time" and "shop time" is like 1:50.
