Default Sunroof leaks now sounds full of water

Hello, I hope someone might have insight to my probem. I have a 2000 Disco with two sunroofs, both of which have started to leak. I sealed them using over the counter liquid weather strips and they seemed to work but not 100% since often there will be very minor drips inside. Now lately, when I accelarate, bank or stop I kinda hear a swishing sound, like water travelling inside the roof.

Where is this water from the leak going to, how do I drain this or will it drain on it's own. I have not repaired the leaks since the dealer is telling me they DO NOT sell sunroof weahter strips and that the only recosrse is to change my whome sunroof....way to expensice for me hence the temporary fix.

Thanks for your help.

Gerard from Chicago

You have 2 drain tubes in the front section of both sun roofs, get in there and clean them out, might also try a small amount of air pressure to free up the drains.

Hey Disco Mike, thanks for you reply. Now, do I have to open the sunroofs to access thsi drain hole or can it be accessed another way since I already sealed my sunroofs.

Thanks,
Gerard

Yes, take the bandaide off of your sun roof, open the roof and look for the 2 drain holes.

Be very careful in trying compressor air to clean these out. The drain hoses are well known to come off of the channel nipple, and then the water will drain into the headliner and cause a expensive mess. You are better off doing a partial removal of the headliner panel and inspect all of these drains before you start amechanical "routing out"process.

I must have the only one that doesn't leak.
I have the hand operated glass panels
My cure, vaseline. I have A/C so I never use them anyway.

Also I'm sure Iread on the old LRO forum that the seals from a Peugeot 204 fit some sunroofs and were much cheaper than the LR ones.

We get an awful lot of rain in the west of Scotland and it's dry as a bone

Unfortunately, the ammount of salt on the roads means it's starting to get nibbled by the tin worm
