Default Thick oil to stop lifter ticking...

Hello I have a 1999 Land Rover Discovery 2 series V8 4.0.

The lifters on both passenger side and driver side are ticking pretty bad. I am going to get an oil change soon and am looking to put thicker oil in the engine. I believe it takes 10W 30 but looking to go thicker. Any recommendations?

Thanks

My Disco had a tick to it when I got it. Previous owner used to go to quick lubricant type places. They had put 10/30 in it. I switched to the Puralator filter listed in the tech section and the Rotella. Tick was gone. Silent.

If you live where temps go below 32F at night go with Rotella T6 5W40 synthetic. 15W40 is too thick for cold weather starts. Too thick means oil starvation at startup and rings, bearings and cam suffer quick wear. It's more expensive but you'll acquire longer duration between changes, synthetic doesn't carbon and helps to loosen what carbon accumulation you already have. If you have a local Napa go with the Napa Gold oil filter. I get over 300 miles on 20 gallons of fuel, summer or winter with T6.

I'm running T6. Few extra drips of oil on the ground but other than that, no complaints.

Quick questions... about the t6 15W 40, there was a note about temp dropping below 32F would lead to 'oil starvatoin at the top end' and cause excessive wear on bearings / etc.

In Colorado Springs, the temps are 'generally' above with a short periods of lows that dip below the 32F. Would it be considered to be acceptable OR should I go with the 5W 40? Thanks for the help

Because weather is unpredictable what would you feel safer with?
