Default tranny trouble

2000 disco II, 73k, runs great...until i turn on the A/C...then she seems indecisive on gears. is it possible that the A/C could cause the tranny to fowl up, or something else that would make the ride rougher while the A/C is on? any suggestions would be appriciated. thanks, ~m

ps. tranny flushed at 65k...but i havent checked fluid levels yet (can't figure out how to do that without a dipstick)

If the AC compressor is locking up it might be causing excessive load on the engine, making you apply more throttle, and in turn causing the trans to shift later.
If the air flow meter is going it will cause the trans to do strange things as the trans ECU uses engine load inputs for shift strategy.although it is an input to both ECUs it might not set any check engine light because it is simply out of range.or loosing a signal for an instant.

To check the trans fluid level ,cold engine, netural position;engine running;remove fill plug at front of trans oil pan;fill untill its level with the bottom of the fill plug
