Transmission Ping / Ting
Recently I occasionally started to get this ping sound like two metal gears coming together in my 2004 Land Rover Disco. The sound is faint and distant and does not happen at any particular instance. Sometimes it happens when I shift from neutral to drive and other times I am just driving along at a slow speed and the sound of two metal gears occurs. It is so faint that no one else really notices it but me. Sounds like the sonar on a submarine in one of those WWII movies PING pause PING pause PING. Sonar is a technique that uses sound propagation to navigate, communicate with or detect other vessels. Anyone know if I should be concerned about this sound or is this just typical for all Discos.

If you haven't had your front drive shaft rebuilt, stop driving it TODAY, it is failing and will take out your tranny at the same time.
Send me your tele number and I'll walk you thru what you need to do.

Replaced the front drive shaft with a new one product number TVB000320. Some individulas told me that I could use the drive shaft for a 01 02 discovery in my 04 discovery. But I decided to use the 04 part. I also did not buy a rebuild. Rebuilds come with regreasable nipple. I went with the new part since I only drive a 2000 miles a year and probably won't need replacing again during my ownership.
