Transmission Trouble 2003 D2
My 2003 Discovery 2 SE7 has a button that sits right behind the shifter. It does nothing because my car didn’t have that option, but I believe it changes modes like into sport. However, when it is cold outside, my transmission doesn’t work and it must be because of this button. I’ll start the car, and a blinking light comes on, it is like a gear with an M in the middle. That starts blinking, then the D for drive starts blinking both on the dash and in the shifter. I’ll put the car in drive and it will only start off in second gear, and stay there. Once the car warms up, I’ll turn it off and on again and the transmission is normal. What the hell is happening? Furthermore, how do I add transmission fluid? I think I have a leak and I know there isn’t a full tube in the engine compartment so it is located on the transmission itself? Thanks for the help!

How long have you had this problem? Did you notice this yesterday, last week, weeks, month or last year when cold too? Does it happen often?
What are your recent local temps and are you affected by the cold snap?
Thanks.

well last year my disco died in a parking lot and I had to jump it. After jumping it, I drive a little bit before realizing that my transmission was stuck in second gear. It did it a little bit during the winter, but it was easily fixed by turning it off and on a few times. Then in the spring my car died again, I jumped it, and the same thing happened. I finally had enough money for a new battery so when I replaced it the transmission stopped acting up. This winter it has been much more aggressive with this problem. It started in the early fall, and has continued to do it in the winter. Could it be some kind of fuse that was damaged by jumping it?
realizing that my transmission was stuck in second gear
Mechanical limp home
The gearbox is fixed in 4th
gear if the fault occurs while the vehicle is moving, or 3rd gear if the fault occurs while the vehicle is stationary.

Determine the battery is OK and the trans fluid is serviced properly. If you still get a flashing M with the limp mode let us know because you may need to consider a X,Y,Z switch replacement.
