Do you have a check engine light on? If you do, have you checked for codes? If the tranny is having problems, it should be throwing a codes.
If you want some help with this before you tow it, send me your number and I'll walk you thru what to check.

I have had the engine light on for ages. It comes on and off intermittently. It has been checked before, but it was deemed by both my mechanic and the dealership to just be finicky. I don't have a code reader myself, but I will check.

The problem only seems to occur when it's quite cold out. I was told that LR issued a PSA at some point indicating that some vehicles required an extra volume of transmission fluid while in cold climates to account for the low temps (the fluid should be removed when the temps rise again as well). It's been quite mild recently, and everything seems to be back to normal.

Where can I get a code reader?

Stop by most auto parts stores and they will read the code for free. Be sure to write down the numbers, not the text message. Check on here or the RAVE for accurate info on the number. A very popular scanner is the Ultra Gauge, about $70. It will display and reset codes, plus show live data from sensors, you customize the display and alarm points (like coolant temp). Default Humming/Buzzing

Everything seemed to be working recently, although today it acted up again. This time, there was a definite buzzing/humming that could be heard coming from under the center console. It was quite audible outside as well. It got more intense as the revs went higher. Does this sound like a torque converter or fluid pump on the fritz?

I'm going to take it to Mr. Transmission right now to get it looked at. Wish me luck!

It ended up that there was a decent amount of moisture in my transmission. I ended up having to replace all my friction materials within the transmission, as well as the TC due to a shot clutch.

Not the best thing, but hopefully now the tranny will outlast the car itself.

Hi

Check the autobox fluid level and ensure it is full. Have you had the autobox filter changed recently as the gear changes are reliant on hydraulic pressure in the autobox. The autobox filter should be changed at least every 30K miles and the sump pan checked for metal particles.
