Hello everyone. I just found this forum and very glad I did.
I have a '99 Disco I which has trouble starting. But only after it has been running a while. Starting when "cold" is no problem. However, after it hase been driven a while, if I turn it off for several minutes then I will have to wait until the engine cools off before it starts again.

Sometimes when it starts after it cools it will run rough but then smooth out. I have been told it could be either:
1. The ignition coil.
2. The cam shaft sensor.
3. The crank shaft sensor.

Also, the "check engine" light is on when the key is in the position just before the starting position.

If anyone can point me in the right direction on this it would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!

 

It is a bad fuel temp sensor.

Can you be more specific as to what the engine does if you try and start it when it is hot?
Spike may be right and there can also be other issues going on. When was it last tuned, including wires, what octane gas are you using, when was the fuel filter last changed?

 

how about spraying down the parts that could be bad to see if it will start afterwards. Works alot better then throwing parts at it.

a can of brake clean works great.

 

Hi everyone. Thanks for all the help.
I have changed the fuel temp sensor and it seems to have solved the problem of starting when hot. However it still runs a little rough when I start it when the engine is still hot. But the roughness smooths out after a few minutes.
Where is the fuel filter located? I bought it when it had 84K miles and as far as I know, the fuel filter has never been changed. I did change the fuel gauge a while ago. (The unit located in the gas tank).
I have always used low octane(regular) gas and I changed the plugs and wire about 1000 miles ago.
As far as spraying down the parts, which parts are you refering to?

Well it started again after I changed the fuel temp sensor. I pressed the fuel "valve" on the fuel rail and the fuel sprayed out with good force. I don't know what else it could be. Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
