You should visit a mechanic.

'ello Ken, Sunderland is a bit far from me or I'd diagnose it for you in person,

What makes you think it's not working? Bear in mind a Tdi Disco isn't as quick as a classic mini cooper and they're far from fast - turbo in this case doesn't equal fast A Tdi engine make peak torque at 1,800 rpm and peak power a shade under 4,000 rpm - you should get a good surge of acceleration between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm then it'll flatten out until you hit the engine speed limiter at 4k (I'm not recommending you rev it that hard, anything above about 3k rpm is a waste of time) If that's what you're getting from your disco then there's nothing wrong with it. It should accelerate from standing to around 60 mph in about 15 seconds if driven 'spiritedly'.

If you're not getting perfromance as described above, can you hear the turbo whistling when you put your foot on the throttle? Any smoke from the exhaust while accelerating or on overrun?

If it's not smoking (typically blue smoke on acceleration and on overrun) then you almost certainly haven't blown the turbo. More likely is the induction hosing has come loose somewhere (easy fix) or the diaphragm in the injection pump which controls the fueling under boost has been stuck in the 'up' position and you're not getting enough fuel under boost (slightly more difficult, but nothing to worry about fix).

Slightly less likely and a bit more expensive to fix is a holed intercooler - this usually whistles like a fat kid running the hundred metres with his mouth and one nostril taped shut so you'd know all about that by now I'd reckon

Let me know if any of that helps,

hi there adz. thanx for your reply . i dont get no power surg and there is no whistling when reving and no smoke so i take it its a bit of good news i hope. all pipes leading to it are secure . so is it looking good for the diaphragam in the injection pump.

Could be it's stuck down, might be it's split - if you've never had it apart before it's probably just stuck to the plate above it and the bost pressure can't press it down to increase the fuel delivery under boost. It's an easy enough thing to check. This is a lot easier if you give me a ring and I'll talk you through it - I'll e-mail you my phone number via the forum.

Cheers,
