Default US supplier for 2.5NA diesel starter?

Hi Folks,

I've got an '82 SIII with a 2.5NA diesel from an early 90 or 110. I'm troubleshooting a starter motor problem and was wondering
where in the US I could find a replacement unit should that become necessary. Since it's an import SIII with motor that I don't believe made it to the states I'm having problems finding comparable units with the US LR retailers. Was this starter used on other NAS LR models or other makes that would help in my search?

Thanks!

Jeff

Any good start/alternator/generator rebuild shop should be able to rebuild it for you. I've had many Lucas/CAV starters rebuilt in the US with no issues at all.
If you have trouble finding parts, let me know.

Thanks, Tom! I've also had success with local shops rebuilding the starters and alternators for my classic Minis but I'm worried the bendix gear may be worn (or, perish the thought, the ring gear). I've done the normal tests with everything bolted together so the next step will be to pull the starter.

Well, ring gear will be a Land Rover part and that you can see in the opening after removing the starter. Any starter part, including the bendix, a good starter shop can fix you up.
