Default Valve Clearance

I just bought a 2001 Land Rover Discovery II with a 4.0 V8 with Bosh set and no SAI. It did not run and I found the timing chaing jumped several teeth. I replaced the gears and chain and know it acts like I have low compression but it will start and run if you want to call it that. There is white smoke like flooding or water. Exhaust does not smell of fuel.
The person said it was running when he went to change the water pump because of a noise he thought was coming from the pump and it did not start after.
My question is when the timing chain jumps on these engine is the valve close enought to the piston the it will hit when out of time and bend the valve?

Sadly, these are an interference engine so the valves will hit the pistons if the timing chain breaks. If the piston isn't damaged then you will only need heads. Either way the heads will need to come off.
