Default Vulnerable towbar module

I’ve experienced a fault caused by approximately 500ml of water that has leaked from a Cooler in the boot of a Defender 110 that has found its way onto the towbar module and damaged the connections. This was deemed not under warranty for this 2021 vehicle.

Consequently the car went into limp mode but wasn’t able to be restarted requiring a tow service. Was a pretty dangerous situation when towing a 17ft camper on a major highway.

The combination of towing and water that has made its way through the boot to the connection is a lethal combo for the vehicle. The boot had the standard rubber boot mat. Tow hitch was fitted as an inclusion. Genuine parts.

anyone else seen this problem before? Is there a method for protecting this components from future damage? We spend a fair bit of time at the beach so surfboards, wetsuits etc end up in the boot.

Has anyone else heard of this problem. It would make sense that there needs to be some form of protection to these electronics given their vulnerability to small amounts of water.
