I assume it is for an oil pick up in another configuration. which one? or is it something else? no need to blank it off or anything silly like that? mostly, I am just curious...

yep it looks like where the oil strainer attaches ....

Could be left over from when LR ran the external oil pump pre 4.0/4.6.
