Whirring noise on 2000 Discovery 2
Hello and thanks in advance for any thoughts or help. We have a 2000 Disco 2 that has about 130000miles on it and it recently started doing two things. First- this started about a year ago- on startup when it hasnt been driven recently it sounds like there is some significant belt or fan noise that usually stops bu the time we get down our driveway once it stops it doesnt recurr until the car hasn't been driven for a day or so.
Second-there is a slight whirring or almost a very subtle grinding that I feel when coasting (and since i usually coast going downhill its most noticable in this situation). switching into neutral immediately resolves the noise and it returns as soon as i engage drive again. Applying even the slightest amount of pressure to the accelerator while going downhill stops the sound as does engaging the breaks. This happens every time the car is driven and doesnt depend on speed
We live on an island with no Land Rover repair shops so even though I am not usually one to take on car repairs...I need to at least figure this one out.
Any ideas are much appreciated. Also- if anyone happens to live on Hawaii Island and/or has contacts here for Land Rover knowledgable people please let me know!

Noise at start up sounds like your secondary air pump, only runs at start up. Could have the foam filter bits stuck in it.
The noise while driving could be your front driveshaft about to go out or your transfer case. Check the driveshaft for play, but you should just replace it with a serviceable one. If it goes out, it explodes your trans.
Change your t case case fluid and see if that helps.
