Default Yet another suspension problem! 2008 LR3

I've read every possible thread about suspension failure but couldn't find any with the exact same symptoms as mine.

Bought my LR3 used a couple of years ago and everything works well.

The other day I've got for the first time the "suspension fault - normal height only" message so I did some online reading and checked a few things.

This is what happens now
car in garage, start the engine, 3 seconds later I hear the compressor starting, 2 seconds later "bong!" and the above message comes up.
At that point suspensions are locked. Up until yesterday the vehicle height was ok because I guess the air reservoir still had pressure but now the truck sits a little lower and doesn't go to normal height any longer.

I checked the fuses in the engine compartment and I also swapped the relay with the windshield heater as suggested by other people. same problem.

Then I opened the compressor compartment to look for anything unusual. All looks pretty clean and in good condition. Seems to me someone accessed that space in the past because part of the central screw that closes the plastic cover is cut and still stuck in the thread. The compressor looks clean (maybe was replaced already) I was able to pull out the hoses and push them back in - I read that sometimes these hoses can melt in-place but mine are fine. Checked both connectors and they look nice and clean.

My only guess now is that the temperature sensor inside the compressor might be faulty and it reads high temperatures forcing it to be shut down. Is there a way to temporarily bypass the sensor to see if that's the cause of the problem?

Of course I can take it to the local LR shop to get the error codes but I'd rather use $195 for something else instead.

Any other suggestion? Something I might have missed?

Thanks

Remove the air shocks and system and put regular shocks in.

thanks for the suggestion but I think I am going to stick to air spring no matter what.

For the cost of doing that you could burn a couple of compressors. False economy.

You should be able to get the fault codes read cheaper elsewhere - those should tell more clearly why the system is failing. If it's the favorite "pressure increases too slowly" then if you have the Hitachi compressor, it may be the dryer unit needs a once over if the desiccant is blocking the filter and affecting the air flow. There have also been reports of hairline cracks in the end cap between the two hoses. A number of LR3 owners have reported success with an overhaul or replacement of the dryer. Also check for leaks with soapy water, if your compressor is running but the system is losing pressure somewhere, it will get shut down to avoid burning it out....
