Default 2008 LR2 Rough Idle at initial startup

1st post so apologies for any bad form, etc. 2008 LR2 , 120k miles. Rough idle after initial startup. Much smoother (and seemingly maybe better performance ) after warm re-start. Does not correct itself after warmup or after quick shutoff/restart following warmup. . Does not throw any codes. Changed plugs and MAF (along with unrelated PCV fix due to the whistling noise at idle - threw a lean code at that time). Thinking maybe ignition coil, but would think it would either fail or not, and the rough idle and performance does not seem to be bad enough to indicate a miss. Considering buying one new coil and swapping one at a time. Any other ideas? Any chance this is software related? I saw a TSB, but it seemed to indicate that codes would be present if this were the problem. Thoughts are appreciated. Thx in advance.

Believe it or not - check your engine mounts. Replacement solved the issue. The vibration was so random that it presented itself as possibly other issues.

question- are there two fuel pumps? I mean an electrical driven and mechanical? Reason- if the fuel pump was over heating the car wouldn't drive would it? I have the same issue, car won't start when warm. When hot yes, when cold yes, but not when warm, just spins.

Only one fuel pump. There is nothing in the service manual for "difficult warm start".

Difficult hot start possible causes
  • Injector leak
  • Electronic engine control
  • Purge valve
  • Fuel pump
  • Ignition system
You need to hook a computer to the car and see what error codes it is reporting.

Are you hot soaking with the key docked?

My LR2 gets really angry if I do this (i.e. stop to get gas press stop but I forget to remove the key from the dock)

Good luck

Heh. Mine does that too, but my gas cap warning is always on and I need to change the purge valve (already checked everything else, including a smoke test).

Same for 2010 LR2, when it first happened many years ago, I just told myself/all that it was a security feature if car-jacked or stolen while FOB was left in. Cleary, that it is not the issue but sounds great!
