Default 2010 LR2 Differential Part# and Labor Cost

2010 Land Rover LR2 differential is starting to go. Currently making a loud noise. Indie shop says it is the differential. Noticed a Land Rover tech bulletin LTB00342 pointing to the rear differential drive pinion front bearing. Have seen many kits online (including Amazon) with the bearing and related parts to fix this. Yet most shops suggest replacing the whole differential. Why?

Rebuilt entire differential from a Land Rover dealer online lists part no. LR066424 at $1,497.64 + core charge. Is this the newer "better" design differential?

What is the expected labor cost to install?

Also roverlandparts.com lists the differential for the LR2 as part no. LR008502, LR031377 for $1,165.50 + core charge.

What is the differential correct part no.?

I don’t know the difference between the part numbers you listed

As for the difficulty of replacing just the pinion bearing take a look at this thread

good luck

This very thorough description of the noise in the differential points to the bearing and its replacement as the fix. While the repair described is probably beyond most DIYers, what does a dealer or indie shop charge?

Why do some LR2 owners with the noisy differential opt to replace the differential as opposed to replacing the bearing?

When I questioned my local dealer, he said depending on the issue, they would replace the bearing or the differential with a new or rebuilt.

Default Part Numbers for LR2 Differential

Dealer confirmed for my LR2 VIN:

LR066424 is for a rebuilt differential.

LR031377 is for a new differential. (Supercedes part no. LR008502)

Price difference from the dealer is only $100 more for the new differential ~$1600 vs $1500.
