208k miles
Hey everyone. I have a 2009 LR2 with just over 208,000 miles on it. Original engine and trans. I’ve been looking to buy a new vehicle because I figure at 200k+ this truck is probably at the end of its life. That said, I can’t find anything I like when comparing it to my LR2. So my question is this: how many miles can I expect to get out of this thing before the engine blows? Please know that I do keep up with maintenance and fixing issues as they arise. But I’m wondering if I could get another 5 or so years out of this thing. I just love it so much.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Keep in mind as well that it is not hard to find parts for this truck using a service like car-parts.com that searches the shops that buy the ones that have been in accidents, for example, and sell the good parts out of them.
Of course, if it breaks down really bad, you could always find another one with a lot less mileage and keep on trucking.
I'll drive mine till it's no longer viable to fix (regular and proactive maintenance being done of course). My last vehicle was 21 years old...............mint condition until an unfortunate mishap.
One thing to note, the LR2 has a ton of electronic modules. They can cause a headache and a butt ache to track down and fix so be prepared to learn about the inner workings or it could get expensive.

I wonder what the weak point in the LR2 is, the engine or transmission? For the 2008-09 model years, it's a Volvo engine and an Aisin tranny. Fortunately, it's not a turbo so it won't suffer the long-term stress effects from pushing the engine to its limits.
Apparently, neither. It appears to be the rear differential. The engine and transmission appear to be durable and reliable as long as you don't terribly abuse them. In particular the factory installation of a transmission oil cooler likely helps to protect it. In the turbocharged models, it's not the engine that fails, it's usually the turbocharger itself.
Yep, the rear diff is definitely a weak spot; cheap factory bearings and, of course, the pinion bearing is/was too small or simply, due to design, does not get sufficient lube. I did replace mine with one refurbed from the UK.
