I wasn't questioning the general utility of Si-OAT, just wondering if it was spec-ed for our specific engine. Slight concern that there might be something in the motor that's incompatible with the new formulation. Odds are it would be fine.

Yes, agree change coolant more often the the mfg. recommendation.

Merlin,

No worries

this is just my assessment

I don’t have actual proof that G12 will be detrimental to the life of your LR2.

Except perhaps the instances of heat exchanger failure by our fellow owners

and I am assuming that they were using the factory G12 at the time of failure and I don’t know if a flush at 5 years would have prevented the failure

take care

Paul

LR2 Fans,

One last thought.

The 3.2 is used in my LR2 and my S80 and the engine is the same for both

Land Rover selected G12 coolant

Volvo selected G11 coolant

This link shows Pentosin NF as compatible for my S80 under similar or comparable products https://www.ipdusa.com/products/1122...1439821-124604
IPD is very knowledgeable with respect to Volvo's.

The only difference between The Volvo and the Land Rover that I noticed was the difficulty of removing the hose from the Thermostat housing. The Land Rover was very difficult to remove (No Silicates in the coolant) and the Volvo was very easy to remove (I was shocked that I didn't have to fight it on the S80, I thought I got lucky, but now I think it was likely due to the coolant)

Both look good to me

But I'm still not using G12

Thanks

Paul

OK, I think you sold me on G13. Had to get some work done in a small town and they refilled it with peak universal so I'm going to need to flush that out when I get home.

I'm at 150K, going to replace the radiator when I get to it, probably a good idea to do the oil and tranny coolers at the same time? I assume they're easy to get at with the radiator out?

The transmission cooler heat exchanger is attached to the radiator.

The Engine oil cooler is attached to the oil filter housing. (I replaced my entire housing, including the cooler, because the anti drain valve fails and it affects oil pressure)

What work did you have done in a small town?

Now that song is in my head. "small town by John Mellencamp"

Thanks

Long story short... towed a trailer to a mountain vacation home through 110*F desert temps (left at 0400 to avoid the 120*F peak). I used an OBDII monitor to keep coolant temp below 105*C. It made it fine but after sitting overnight it sprung a leak from the PCV coolant tube.

Ended up getting the water pump, the big hoses, the PCV coolant tube replaced, and I had them do the belt, idler, and tensioner while they were in there.

All good, but after a couple days the radiator sprung a leak. Had the radiator replaced, and also the oil and tranny coolers while they were at it. Wife had to drive it home alone so I didn't want to take any chances.

Had 150K on the car, so that looks like a good time to replace the coolant parts pre-emptively. Fortunately it didn't break down on the road, and there was a good (but expensive) shop in the vacation town. If you drive in anything like severe conditions, I'd probably replace all that stuff at 120K before doing any road trips.

Thanks for sharing the story. It is a good reminder that it is less expensive to fix our LR2 preemptively

Here is what I have replaced so far on my 2008

This small bleed hose did leak on me after I removed it when changing the Thermostat

For this Hose it wasn't leaking but a S80 owner with 300,000 miles had this hose burst on him so I replaced mine

This Thermostat was from my S80 and it was broken when I got to but the car had no symptoms to indicate that it was broken.
Note: my LR2 thermostat came out without breaking and then it failed on the bench a few minutes later.

This hose has the plastic fitting on the end with an O-ring. Mine wasn't leaking but when I removed it the plastic fitting broke apart. I am surprised that it could hold 15 PSI

Ok this last one I only replaced the sealant

Take care

Paul
