Default Buying 2008 tomorrow - help!

Hey guys!!

My name is Chris - was hoping to hop on here for some advice.

What are some things I should check tomorrow when I check out this 2008 LR2.

Also, for those that have had the rear differential bearings replaced - what was the cost of the repair?

thank you!!!

Rear diff rebuild is not cheap, even worse if you are having someone else do the work

Generally it will be replacing all the bearings and having everything reset to tolerance. Usually what happens is the bearings self destructs inside the diff putting plenty of metal in the oil. That is then circulated through all the bearings making them all junk. If they haven't failed I certainly wouldn't trust them. You figure all the labor you have to get the diff out of the truck to replace all the bearings, parts, fluid, labor etc than putting it back in it wouild be crazy to not do the full job.

You didn't say the mileage on this vehicle. Typically, if it's one of the vehicles that has a bad rear diff, the problem reveals itself under 80K miles. A 2008 model will probably have been driven beyond this mileage, so was already repaired or doesn't have the problem to begin with. You should be OK if you test drive it and it feels and sounds good.

Oh great thank you all for the advice!! The mileage is 94,800.

I did end up buying it; so far only a transmission gasket has been found to be faulty. I’m expecting some other things to pop up but WOW I like this car.

I also have the sunroof leak + some rattling in the rear that I’ll try and diagnose/fix at a later date.
