Factors to consider when choosing OEM or aftermarket/used

1. Cost (if the price differential is huge, that's a warning sign)
2. Critical to the function of the car? A bulb is one thing, a transmission is another.
3. Mileage? (for used) Only important if the part moves, rotates or turns
4. Ease of replacement? A starter? Piece of cake. A fuel tank? Not so much.
5. Source? With our LR2 its often cheaper to buy parts from the UK, even with s&h it may be a much better deal, particularly with used parts.

I would be looking for low mileage salvage. Use car-part.com. Each side is running about $100 there, but you have to factor in shipping if the yard is too far away to go pick up, and very few salvage yards will ship anything larger than a door handle, if that much.

What is year/mileage of your vehicle? What is the problem with your axle ... joint failed (clicking noise, vibration) or boot torn (grease leaking)?

I have a tiny tear in the boot on my driver's side CV shaft, so I looked into replacing the entire shaft. The shops I spoke with told me the quality of replacement CV shafts is in this order:

LR New - LR dealer (or GKN brand which is the OEM)
LR Used - recycled OEM
Chinese New - may last 2 to 3 years
Chinese Used - don't bother

Unless you are very handy, you'll want a shop to do this replacement. I was quoted 2 hours of labor, and told the ball joint needs to be moved to level the wheel hub so the CV shaft can be removed. You'll want to negotiate with the shop on the sourcing of the replacement part. Otherwise, they will probably go with Chinese knowing their warranty will expire before the part fails.

Let us know how it works out.

Thank you very much for the detailed answer, removal is no problem I can do it easily, I was just concerned about the part to purchase, I usually go OEM if the part needs a big effort to replace, but in this case the amount is too much .
i will try to figure it out and ill let you know guys .

Thank you
