Check engine light went on and also reduced engine performance on the screen, these are the codes we are seeing. we live in the Caribbean so we have a mechanic, but we try to do the detective work ourselves before bringing it in. any help with this would be much appreciated, or where I can find information on how to decipher these codes. Year/mileage of your LR2? Does this happen right upon startup, or after warm up and driving?

 

Hi it's a 2011, LR2 With 91,000km.... it's a weak start up and then we drive a bit and the engine performance comes on with the check engine. you can feel the car dragging and not being able to accelerate. the car rumbles when idling. we are also experiencing hot air coming out of the AC vents when idling. lots going on it seems

 

I would check the PIDs on your OBD2 reader looking for out-of-range values (while driving with warm engine) that may give you a starting point: voltage, fuel pressure, MAF air flow rate, fuel trims, and engine temp.

The engine computer may disable the A/C when it detects a serious fault condition, so I would not be concerned with the warm air blowing until you resolve the engine issue.

 

One way of eliminating possible causes is by swapping ignition coils, and while you are at it check the spark plugs.

 

Ignition Coil F should be the coil on cyl 6. So start with that.

The fan DTC could be either:

Fan or control module failure, which would result in AC blowing hot air when idling. AC might work OK while moving, since you'll have airflow through the radiator and AC condensor. This will also result in overheating when idling or driving slowly, and possible engine or cooling system damage. Worst case, you might have already overheated and blown the head gasket, which could result in misfires and coil errors. You'd probably know if it overheated, the temp gauge would rise and eventually you'd get a warning.

Given the misfires, I'd probably swap coils as FlyBD5 suggested and pull some plugs to check for signs of coolant, which would indicate a head gasket.


If you're lucky, the fan DTC just means pending failure, in which case you'll need to get the fan or control module diagnosed and replaced before it fails.

 

The assortment of codes looks like the vehicle is going haywire. If the battery is low (OP reports weak startup) because the alternator is faulty and not putting out sufficient voltage, the low voltage might cause the computer to send erroneous signals to multiple systems. That's why I suggested checking the basic vital signs first.
