My wife does that sometimes. We had it come and go for a couple years, new purge valve and canister IIRC. Hasn't been back in about six months.

My Audi complained about a loose gas cap

So I used some silicone spray on the gasket.
The cross-section of the gasket is more of a U than an O.

The Silicone spray worked for several months.

The message never came back.
Note: for the Audi the check Engine light didn't turn on, just a message to tighten the gas cap.

I did replace the gasket because it was almost 12 years old.

You should think about doing the same

Take care

Paul

Mech checked the connector and wiring, everything is fine, did what the service bulletin says but there's not been any further problems with the fuel level indicator.

So, to return to the original topic... on Thursday I took my truck to the mechanic for R&R of the evap purge valve as well as parking brake adjustment and finding out why the bottom chassis cover plate was loose (it was a missing fastener). (Yes, it's DIY but it's been too f***ing cold to do it in the driveway among the snow.)

Replacing the purge valve finally killed the @!(*$&!(@*&#!)(@!! () evap warning light and the stupid message about a loose or missing gas cap. Mech cleared the code and it never came back (WHOOP!!) Strangely, though, he said he smelled a strong odor of fuel when he disconnected the tube coming from the evap pump. Apparently the valve was clogged or stuck, and disconnecting the tube relieved pressure in the system, hence the fuel odor until the pressure equalized. Everything's good now and the wife says the car runs better.

Because the mech had a purge valve in stock I didn't know he had ordered for me, I now have an extra new purge valve that I will let go for $25 and postage. If anyone is interested, send me a PM.

Did the Intake Manifold (IM) need to be removed to replace the purge valve, or was he able to reach in and do it with the IM attached?
