Default Exhaust Muffler

Hello,
I have a 2008 Land Rover LR2 HSE that requires a new muffler. Mine is no longer functional. It's riddled with cracks and holes. I was able to cover the whole thing in JB weld exhaust tape, but it's only a temporary fix that isn't holding up as well as I had hoped. It's a little better, but it's still quite loud. I was hoping someone could put me in the proper path and tell me if I should buy a new one or go to a salvage yard to get one. What is the price difference between new and used? Because LR2s are hard to come by, is this part interchangeable with similar vehicles? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

The exhaust system of an LR2 is divided into three parts, the exhaust manifold and first catalytic converters, the center portion with another set of catalytic converters, and the rear portion that contains the muffler. If it's just the rear portion with the muffler that you need, and you know for sure the rest of the system, is in good shape, those are easy to get and run about $140-$200 or so. Are you going to take it to a shop to get it replaced or DIY? I would make sure the rest of the system is in good shape. Especially the catalytic converters.

agreed. on your budget you are probably better off just going to any muffler shop and getting a generic replacement. At that time they can assess the whole system for you. The generic system should run half the price of the LR system, installed.
