Default Key Fobs

Hello, I have a 2011 Freelander 2. I recently lost a key and am looking to replace. Any one have a recommendation on where I can buy replacement fobs? Also I have the Autel AP200, can I use that to program the keys? Is it a reliable way to do it? Meaning they won't fail and leave me stranded unable to get into the car?

Amazon or eBay has replacement fobs and yes, the AP200 can reprogram a key. Make sure it has the latest updated software and follow the instructions to the letter.

Related Rant: Shame on Land Rover allowing no more than 2 keyfobs for the LR2. I would be satisfied with 3. Some other vehicle brands allow even more.

You can program at least 3 keys but you will have to add all three together just not one more. At least this is how lt's done with JLR SDD. I can't speak for the Autel but I can't see why not?!

Wow! I thought the limit was two. That's good news, I may get a third one now as an additional backup.

Sometimes it pays to complain, I learned something!

ThorInc is correct, you can't just add a fob. You have to reprogram all the fobs in one session, up to three.

Hmmm, so if I screw it up, I'll brick all three of them.

I've used these several times, they're cheap...

Amazon Amazon

The last one lasted less than a year, failure mode is always the remote stops working, presumably due to bad battery. I've never had any key fail to start the car (doesn't need the battery when it's in the dock).

The AP200 usually takes a few tries to program it, just keep trying until the new key doesn't eject itself from the dock.

You will not brick your original key... you have to insert a valid key to start the process, that will remain valid regardless of what happens with the new key.

that's been done that way purposely for security reasons... if a key was lost, then found... by someone else.
