Default Land Rover LR2 6 Cylinder Engine Fuel

Hey guys. Just bought an LR2 a few months ago and have been running 89 octane fuel in it. Gas prices are on the rise and am considering putting 87 in it. What are your thoughts? Will it hurt the engine? cause a pinging noise? Thanks.

The engine computer fuel maps are built based on premium fuel. Lesser fuel will run, but you will probably notice a mpg penalty. The modern engine has knock sensors that cause timing to be adjusted on the fly, and independent for each cylinder. Pinging probably won't be there.

If you think prices are rising you a'int seen nothing yet. Our volitile infantile and mobile political illustrious potentates, sent by us to do a job, are gold bricking (with what little gold we have left). Economic uncertainty and headlines push fuel prices higher when attention is focused on institutions other than the energy companies. Got plenty of oil in the northern US and Canada, and no pipeline. Environmental activists and lawyers, a dangerous mix.

Default Thanks guys

Thanks guys for the response. I'm going to keep putting 89 in my LR2. I think it will save me money in the long run. And yeah, sick and tired of the government not being able to drill more or put in a pipeline from Canada. Anyways, thanks again.

Just continue using what is recommended for your LR2. Stay away from those remote cheap gas places too. Once you go Land Rover, you are financially committed

You haven't seen anything yet related to Buearucrat & Lobbyist crap and wasted money. Just wait until ObamaCare is implemented within the next year! Maybe there will be salvation with the 2014 election IF (and that's a big "if") the clueless become more informed.
