After pulling a trailer the next day I noticed the truck shifting into gears pretty rough at a low RPM but then smooths out. It only did that when I came to a complete stop going through the gears. So I pull up in a parking lot and notice a trail of transmission fluid leaking all the way up to my truck. I look underneath and there is a puddle of fluid. The truck would not shift into reverse or drive after that.
So so I went to the parts store and bought transmission fluid in it and toward the hole jug in. Started the truck put it in drive and reverse and looked under the truck and no fluid was leaking. So I let it idle for about 10 minutes and no fluid leaking at all. So I drove down the road about 1 mile and stopped. I looked out of the truck and it was leaking heavily. Now it is doing the same problem not going into gear. What seal did I blow and how do I find information on replacing it. and let me say that once I did fill the transmission fluid back up it did switch through the gears smoothly just like it should. It is just not holding any kind of fluid at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
[QUOTE=flybd5;718342]You won't know where until you get underneath and track it down.[/QUOTEQ I have went underneath and it was pouring out all over the bottom of the transmission housing. More so by the starter. I never attached my skid plate when I changed my oil a few weeks ago. So I took the starter out just to see better for any distinct leak. When I did drop the starter a little bit of fluid came out, and really didn't see any other spot it could be leaking from.
I had angle gearbox out, changed seals cause was getting this leak, not sure why but its leaking agin, when take out one of the bolts trans fluid leaks out so be aware, there is no overall gasket for this area and neither side is planed matching flat, the seal on trans and seal on angle gearbox are the only seals, i am not in mood anytime soon to tear all apart again
This is beyond my pay grade. I think you need to take it to a transmission specialist who has experience with Land Rovers and hopefully specifically with LR2's.
I just explained what the issue was....as said in post i had same leak, tore everything apart and replaced seals, but all all welcome to go to stealership, regular trans shops wont touch lr2s

Correction: Regular trans shops in your area won't touch lr2s.
