LR2 2008 oil lamp on and flickers some time
I am new on this Forum, have a question yesterday my Lr2 start showing the oil light when idling checked the oil level is ok no noises at engine I stop the engine for about 15 minutes started the engine and the light was off so I start driving and about 5 minutes later the light turn on again drove about 15 miles to my home the engine sound normal so i parked overnite in the morning started the engine the oil light was off but after 5 minutes it flicker 2-3 times and stayed on again any thoughts?
Thank for your input, oil changed 4 months ago less than 1000k driven (due to the covid19 stay at home) , oil brand Quaker State 5-30 engine mileage 157.000 just passed smog test a week ago.
Thanks I have an appointment with my mechanic Monday morning He thinks the oil sensor is bad (I hope he is right) he ask me if the engine has some unusual noise or if the rocker arm taps or clicks or if the engine misfires , none of that happens so lets see what's the problem on Monday.

I suspect that the anti drain valve in your oil filter housing has failed.
or
The VCT acuator is failing

Good luck

There is no oilpressure switch on your engine.
Quote from the manual:
There is no oilpressure switch on the engine therefore low pressure is calculated by the ECM using the following data:
• High oil temperature >110°C.
• High holding current on the VCT actuator (>590mA).
If both of these conditions are fulfilled and the engine speed is <2900 rpm a message is then sent to the instrument pack which then illuminates the oilpressure warning lamp in the event of oilpressure failure.

Thank You for the information Paul Monday morning on my way to the mechanic shop the oil light went off so I eept driving the land rover for about 20 miles and still off, stop the engine 4 times and is like normal, all lights turn on when I start the engine and then all the lights go off the land rover is at the shop, on Friday I will pick it up and see if they found what happen, today they told me they keep checking but so far everything is normal.

If you want to know if your Anti Drain valve has failed then do the following.
1. Drain the engine oil (but don't touch the filter housing)
2. After the oil stops dripping out of the oil pan place a measuring cup under the pan
3. unscrew the oil filter
If you get out a lot of fluid then the drain valve is fine.
If you get almost nothing then its time to repair the drain valve.
I did this test on my S80 with the same engine as the LR2 and I got about 700 mL
Note: this was after I fixed the drain valve

The easiest solution is to just replace the entire housing (Easy but expensive)
Good luck

Edit: I just looked at the picture and I did the test on my LR2 not S80. The next time I change the oil on the S80 I will verify that the drain valve is working by doing this test.
