LR2 2011 - Leaking Transmission Fluid
Hi there,
Took my recently purchased LR2 2011 to British 4x4 in Virginia for a routine post purchase check and some fluid changes (as suggested by helpful colleagues on the forum!).
The inspection revealed that the automatic transmission is leaking fluid, with about 3/4 quarts having escaped over what I think is the past 2 yrs (previous owner claims no knowledge of the issue, and I tend to believe him as his car knowledge is very limited). Some amateur workshop had tried to seal the leakage but unsuccessfully.
British 4x4 is saying that to seal the trans they’d need to lift it out, seal, and put it back.
I’m now seeking your expertise to try and address this in the least costly and painful way.
1. Does anyone have previous experience with leaking automatic transmission for LR2 2011 or later?
2. What did you do about it? Do you know of any places that are specialized in helping out on these issues?
3. How costly was it to fix?
A hopeless Landy aficionado appreciates your help and advice!

Mine is leaking a bit, but seems to go a long time without any issues. If it starts mis-shifting on hills, it's time to add fluid.
The fluid add process is something you can do at home but it's a bit complicated, you have to buy some orings and a gasket for the drain and fill plugs and will need some specific tools, including a means of checking fluid temp... either a bluetooth scantool with an LR2 specific database, or an IR thermometer.
Our LR2 is retired from road trips, so it's just used locally and I'm not putting a bunch more money into it.

Not sure as to the market for those. If the only problem is leaking, might be cheaper to pull it and reseal... that's typically just gaskets or RTV sealant.
If you go the used route, I'd let the shop source the unit... they know reputable vendors and can address any issues. If you buy one off the interwebs you'll probably get ripped off.
