hello fellow LR2 owners,
thanks for all good information in the forum regarding turbo replacement. since most post points out a non-oem turbo might have subpar performance and reliability, so we did some additional information search and hope that can help future folks that facing same issue.

1. Required Turbo
oem turbo was developed by borgWarner. borgWarner stop manufactoring this turbo from germany later 2021 and all shift manufactoring to china. latest kit is BORG WARNER TURBO KIT 53039880505 ; Rover Parts is LR074185
since there might be fake borgwarner parts on ebay, I called borg warner chiness after sale center, they confirm that only way to identify if this turbo is legit or not is there is a scrable label on turbo, once your scrabe it , you will get a full QR code. Then once you use your phone to scan it, it will tell you if that QR number already being verified before or not(is you scrable it, you shall expect it said no one else verify that number before).
They also shared a Level 1 authorized seller from beijing. the price quote from above parts is 4000-4500 chinese rmb depends on quantity i order(550 usd- 620 usd) plus 150-200 usd shipping to usa. so any parts listed in ebay that below above price plus ebay 30% profit cuts might seems skeptical.

I think for personal usage,if you buy from chinese authorized seller and direct ship to you, any import less than 800 usd is tax free from importing to usa(might be small bonus for folks that not in tax-free state).

2. Install Kit
third party kit is JTC11700 , it cost about 70 bucks plus 15 buck shipping fee. It includs major parts that may failed during installation.

so landroverpalmbeach price is kind of half of normal dealer charge parts prices.
you can also ask above chinese seller to locate land rover parts for you( the prices varies, but roughly 50%-100% of landroverpalmbeach online pretax price

3. Labor
mechnics labor is betwwen $600 - $900 and highly ymmv.

I am not so sure I would spin the wheel on a Chinese-made turbocharger. It's easier (and likely cheaper) to go look for an OEM unit pulled from a donor car with low mileage before it went to salvage. car-parts.com has quite a few of them listed.

 

Right, we are in same boat if it was not an OEM turbo. Since this is still OEM brand, I am assumed they will still holds their own quality standard at OE level and factory contoury might have less of impact. Unless someone shared that specific factory have a very bad reputation for borgs warner. All we are seeking for is a turbo that have authentic Borg warner name tag with it.

car-parts was also possible another route that we think of before, however, all exhaust manifold from other LR2 still had old design which will break again in future for sure( per local LR specialist shop expierence). So if money is not a factor, maybe got a new manifold and original turbo might work better(technically you are buying two set as they are not sold in seperate piece)?

As a side note: also work in automotive relative industry, per what I saw and what I heard from friends in couple Tier 1 supplier, to most people's suprise, if factory is correctly supervised by factory quality standard, Chinese factory typically perform above average to top quality compared with other factory for that supplier. Knock off factory is a different story though.

 

right, I will be in same boat if it is an non-oem parts. since these parts had borg warner name backs off it, I will trust they will maintain OE quality regardless of factory location.
in other hands, My 2 cents, major issue for these turbo comes from exhaust manifold bad design, I was told by my local LR specialist that it will go back for sure if i replace the same turbo again and it is only matter of time. Thus, what we actual needs in these kit are majorly the exhaust manifold.
