Motorized key switch
New 2012 LR2 owner. Bought it used, had one question. Do this motorized key fob switch fail. Anyone experienced it to fail like on the slot, key fob will not insert or key fob will not eject. What is the walkaround if it does. Thanks

First off, make sure the transmission is in Park (or Neutral?), otherwise the fob won't eject from the docking port.
Also don't try to force it, and don't attach heavy key chains or decorative doo-dads to the fob... the weight pulling down can damage the dock,
If the docking port mechanism fails, there's no work around, you'll need to get it towed to a dealer or independent LR shop.
With that said, the battery in the fob is only for the remote functions... if the battery dies, you can still start the car normally, the dock port will still recognize the key fob.

Also, the FOB may have someone lost the pairing to the car. If you have an Autel AP200 ($59 on Amazon) with the LR software it can restore the pairing to the car.
Replacing the dock is expensive and time-consuming.

It's possible it has some gunk inside and needs to be cleaned with electronics spray cleaner and then some silicone spray (do NOT use WD-40!).

Interesting thread. I have the very same mechanism in the xkr. The car is going on to 15 years of age and have never had any problems with the dock. And absolutely I have added fobs to all my vehicles without a hitch... but never "lost programming!?!". Though I could see that happening if someone was messing with the management modules without understanding them...
Cheers.
Cheers.
If so, they’re pretty robust, and I’ve personally never heard of one failing. Mine has the original slot and keys, with 235K miles, and no issues. Had to replace the rechargeable battery in one of the fobs, but that’s it.
Thank you all for the replies. This always come to my mind "what if?" Now, I have the confidence of driving my LR2 going out of state and on dates too.
