Need new tires for LR2
When I replaced my original Conti's, I went to a tire dealer who carries all the major brands. He could have sold me almost any tire, but his advice was to stay with the original Conti's.
He said auto manufacturers know that buyers make their purchase decision for a vehicle based in large part on the test drive at the dealership. Knowing this, the auto manufacturer tests a variety of tire brands to find the one that provides the best ride to make the test drive convincing.
The tire dealer also said that a case could be made for switching tires if you drive in special conditions that would benefit from a tire that is optimized for use in a lot of snow, rain, etc. But for typical driving conditions, stay with the original.

I put on the Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season
and they handle well in all weather conditions. I live in NY and have not had any problems.

Just wanted to give an update on the Cooper Zeons, It's been a year now (25,00KMS) and just recently I had the fun opportunity to head though some mountain passes that were under a sever weather warning. 50 CM of snow in 5 hours. It was a white out and the chain signs were flashing. I was only doing about 50 Km/hr as the snow was coming fast and visibility was minimum, I thought the tires did well in good forward and lateral grip. They broke loose a bit under breaking but the conditions were pretty bad. all in all, I am pleased with these tires there is a bit of road noise due to the lug pattern. I have been off road and am finding these tire capable of all terrians.

Hi folks,
Looking to get some winter tires for up here in Edmonton Canada (among the worst winter conditions on earth, where there is civilization at least).
I bought my LR2 second hand with 70,000km on it. I now have 85k on it and still using the original Conti tires, they are bald though.
I know wider tires aren't recommended for winter, but I would like to get taller tires that fill more of the wheel well and give a bit of clearance boost, only if it won't rub or have any negative effects though of course.
Will I be able to use a 235/65/R19 tire on this? My parents have a Nissan Pathfinder and that is the stock tire size, I assume it won't be a problem on the LR2.
My other question is how a lot of people in this thread can use wider tires with the stock rims...how does that work? A 255/55/R19 tire is like 8% wider...doesn't it go past the outter lip of the rim on the inside? I know nothing about tires but was just wondering.
Thanks!

Just bought 08 LR2 few weeks ago with brand new Bridgestone tires 235/60R18 (all season) also living in Southern Ontario and not sure if I should get winters. I would also have to get Rims and I checked Costco, they had Scorpions with install package about $1600. Does 18inch or 19 matter
I think all the 2008 LR2's came with 18 inch wheels. They changed in 2009 to 19 inch wheels on the HSE models. The 19 inch wheels look cooler IMO, and offer more stability but it is much harder to find decent off-road tires in the 19 inch size that will not rub on the wheel wells. I did find the Cooper XEON LTZ tires that I love. But it took me quite a while to find them. I run my Cooper XEON's year round and they are wonderful in the snow and off-road. I did just encounter a very slippery mountainside a couple weeks ago, and am now considering a good set of chains for winter excursions.
I guess if you HAVE to get new rims I would go with 19 and Cooper XEON LTZ tires. If not, you might want to stick with 18 inch rims so you have a wider selection of tires to choose from.

I know my 2008 HSE LR2 came with 19" rims and those crappy Conti's. I do sometimes wish I had the 18" rims, but I went instead to a slightly larger 255/60R19 tire. I am about to replace my Toyo Versado CUV's in this size. Not sure with what yet. I got about about 40k miles out of them, rotating every 5k miles. I have some homework to do! Merry Christmas everyone!

What do you think?

I bought the Cooper XEON LTZ in the 255/55 R19 size, and have been running with them for well over 3 years now. They work great!! I live in Montana and regularly go off road with them and they have done very well. They are also spectacular in the snow! They do not rub the wheel wells at all, even in a sharp U-Turn. I will buy another set when these wear out.
Here I am 6 years later, and over 60,000 miles on my first Cooper XEON LTZ tires, and I just now needed to replace them. I liked them so much, I replaced them with a new set. I bought them from a local Tire Rama that mentioned doing an alignment is recommended, but said they did not have the appropriate tools to do the alignment correctly on my LR2. They said there are specific Land Rover tools needed to do that kind of aligment.
i would have to drive at least 200 miles to get to a dealership or specialist. Does anyone know if that is truly a necessity?
